Chef Carla Hall and Caire Co-Founder Lorrie King both enjoy using broth either as a part of a multi-day cleansing regimen or as a base for tasty and healthy soup recipes that you can build and add in based on the taste and calorie count profile you are seeking. Soup is restorative, cleansing, healthy and just mmm, mmm good. 

Caire Ambassadress Chef Carla Hall says, "soup broth is one of my secrets to delicious, healthy everyday eating."  Having broth every day for a few days can help:

  1. Guarantee more energy
  2. Banish bloating
  3. Lose 1 or 2 pounds of weight (or more if you create a weekly regimen)

HINTChef Carla prepares all of her ingredients ahead of time so that she can have soup to eat over a few days. Each day, she “layers” her soup into a bowl for the exact amount she wants to eat for that meal. 

Carla also believes in keeping active by adding in a little weight & abs work - even for just 10 mins a day – this will help your body spring forward.

CARLA’S RECIPE

  • Prepare all of the ingredients ahead of time and then combine at the end
  • Prepare a homemade broth such as the version from Author Rebecca Katz that Co-Founder Lorrie shares below or use a pre-made one such as the one from Kroma that Chef Carla uses.
    INGREDIENTS
    • Wide soup bowl
    • Prepare Stock Ahead of Time: 
      • 48 ounces (6 cups; 1 ½ cups per serving) of a preferred Stock Broth such as the one at the bottom of this article
      • For the stock you can add these for about 5 minutes. Season with salt to taste.
        • 1 jalapeno thinly sliced jalapeno *optional
        • 1 inch fresh and peeled ginger (HINT: use a spoon to easily scrape the skin off of ginger fresh easily as Co-Founder Lorrie does)
      • Ahead of Time:  For the Soup 
        • 12 - 16 oz Grilled Chicken or Protein of Your Choice
        • 2 cups Sauteed Greens (cut into ribbons) or spinach; season to taste
        • 2 cups Cooked Assorted Mushrooms, season to taste
        • 2 cups Sauteed Diced Zucchini or 3 cups Raw Zucchini Noodles
      • DAILY SOUP COMBO
        • Reheat 4 ounces of Protein
        • Reheat 1 ½ cups of Broth
        • Reheat 1 cup Cooked Greens; ¼ cups Mushrooms; ¼ of the Zucchini if diced
        • Arrange Protein & Veggies (zucchini ribbons) in a wide soup bowl
        • Pour hot broth over all 
        • Enjoy!

          How Co-Founder Lorrie prepares her soup:

          Shop a day ahead and prepare your vegetables in the morning.  If your supermarket has organic ingredients give them a try; if the price is right for your wallet and if you want to be guaranteed a clean focused broth.  

          Whole Foods Market is a savior for finding KOMBU the seaweed that provides a umami flavor.  Here is a photo so you can find it more easily than I was able to!

          Kombu

          Layer in all of the veggies. I prepared this in my super large pot the first time, but figured out how to split this into 2 pots as a savior for spreading more flavor and taking full advantage of all of these yummy vegetable. What I loved was the sweetness that permeated the soup from the addition of the Japanese yam and sweet potatoes.  It’s a must do ingredient.  I also cooked this for much longer than the recommended 2 hours to gain more of the richness of the vegetable flavor.

          Chef Carla Hall's Cleansing Soup Recipe: INGREDIENTS Wide soup bowl Ahead of Time:  For the Stock 48 ounces (6 cups; 1 ½ cups per serving) of Stock such as the one at the bottom For the stock you can add jalapeno and/or ginger for about 5 minutes. Season with salt to taste. 1 jalapeno thinly sliced jalapeno *optional 1 inch fresh and peeled ginger (use a spoon to easily scrape the skin off easily as Co-Founder Lorrie does) Prepare Ahead of Time:  For the Soup  12 - 16 oz Grilled Chicken or Protein of Your Choice 2 cups Sauteed Greens (cut into ribbons) or spinach; season to taste 2 cups Cooked Assorted Mushrooms, season to taste 2 cups Sauteed Diced Zucchini or 3 cups Raw Zucchini Noodles DAILY SOUP COMBO Reheat 4 ounces of Protein Reheat 1 ½ cups of Broth Reheat ½ cup Cooked Greens; ¼ cup Mushrooms; ¼ of the Zucchini if raw Arrange Protein & Veggies in a wide soup bowl Pour hot broth over all  Enjoy!
