A rhytid, (ri′tid) is a wrinkle, fold or ridge in skin.

Caire Believes That No Needles Are Necessary

When it comes to aging, it's inevitable, and of course, natural (whether we would like to come to terms with it or not) for women 40 Plus to experience wrinkles. From the forehead, around the eyes, and between the brows, fine lines and wrinkles on our face can make us appear older than we actually are.

Botox® treatments, including derma fillings like Juvéderm®, are popular solutions as they can be used to plump dull skin while getting rid of fine lines and wrinkles by relaxing and weakening the facial muscles over time. While there's the option of paying for surgical procedures and injectables, these methods of reducing wrinkles can be costly and often require frequent upkeep – making it an unrealistic and unappealing choice for the majority of women.

Let's be honest; no woman wants to spend thousands of dollars a year chasing her youth the moment they begin noticing wrinkles appear on their face. And yes, the dread of aging is an impending fear that all women go through. But it doesn't need to be this way, as there are options available that can help 40+ women slow down the signs of aging.

Reducing Wrinkles Naturally for 40+ Women

5 Ways to Look Younger Without Botox® for 40 Plus+ Women

1.          Adopt a Good Skincare Routine

Evidently, one of the best solutions to looking younger without the use of an injectable such as Botox® is to adopt a good skincare routine as early as you can. Yes, your mother was right; having an effective skincare routine from as early on as possible is going to help us maintain the brightness and plumpness of our skin for longer - especially when our hormones begin to get out of whack before and when we hit menopause.

Practicing a good skincare routine doesn't have to be hard or expensive. Nor does it mean that you have to go buy hundreds of dollars' worth of skincare products that make you question whether they are making a difference or not. The best way to start with any new skincare product or range is to start slowly by doing a patch test on your skin and then gradually build the routine up over time. This way, you will be able to tell whether or not the products are nourishing your skin over time and if you are sensitive to any of the ingredients.

Look for anti-aging ingredients that stimulate collagen production, including vitamin E, alpha-hydroxy (retinol), salicylic acid, and peppermint in an anti-aging serum and cream. By beginning with a serum, it will assist in promoting collagen production. At the same time, an anti-wrinkle cream, of course, will help reduce fine lines and prolong the benefits of your serum. Also, ensure your moisturizer contains a good amount of hyaluronic acid, rosehip, and coconut oil. This is going to help plump the skin and help rejuvenate it over time.Don’t forget to make sure your serum provides you with hydration! Look for ingredients such as sodium hyaluronate and Tetradecyl Aminobutyroylvalyaminobutyric Urea Trifluoroacetate to lock in that moisture.

2.          Avoid Prolonged Sun Exposure

When we prolong our skin to sun exposure, it increases the signs of skin aging by leaving behind dark marks caused by sunburns. As our skin loses moisture from being out in the sun, it will begin to lose its elasticity over time which causes fine lines. This can also result in crinkling or wrinkles around the eyes and forehead which, as we said earlier, will make you look older and strip you of that healthy, youthful glow.

If you are unable to commit to keeping up with a skincare routine, one of the best ways to reduce wrinkles and look younger is to protect your skin from sun damage. Whether you are on a tropical vacation or not going to work, never leave the house without apply sunscreen daily and regularly if you can. You should wear a face moisturizer with SPF 30 and increase to an SPF 50 if you are exposed to the sun often throughout the week. You should also seek out an eye cream that contains at least an SPF 30 in it.

3.          Exfoliate With a Chemical Peel

If you are past the point of avoiding prolonged sun exposure and have dark spots on your skin, a chemical peel can help reduce sun damage and dark circles. Chemical peels remove dead skin cells by exfoliating the top layer of the skin, leaving your skin looking brighter and softer over time. By removing the dead skin, it helps to promote the regeneration of newer skin cells.

That being said, chemical peels are generally performed in a medical office as it is technically a medical procedure and should be done no more than twice a year. After you have had the chemical peel, you are going to feel discomfort about a week after the procedure as your skin begins to peel and regenerate a layer of new skin. While the recovery time is inconvenient, you will be able to notice permanent and immediate prevention of wrinkles which is why chemical peels are so popular.

4.          Use Hydroxy Acid & Glycolic Acid

When it comes to your skincare products, hydroxyl, and glycolic acids are a must as they help reduce wrinkles by correcting skin sag caused by sun damage and pollution while improving your skin's overall elasticity. This helps create a youthful appearance while reducing any dryness that you may be experienced, as these two acids act as exfoliants for the skin.

Again, by removing the dead skin cells from the skin's surface, you are going to help promote the regeneration of the skin and boost your collagen production. They are also a great way to prevent acne breakouts that may be caused by hormonal imbalances as well. You may also be able to find these two acids in your facial moisturizers with SPF in them, which is an added bonus!

5.          Exercise & Eat Healthy

While this tip may be obvious, it's still essential that we need to talk about this ladies! As we grow older and our bodies begin show signs of aging, the last thing we want to do after a long day is to get off the couch to do something active. I get it; we've all been there. However, even if it's 10 – 15 minutes of walking around the neighborhood every night, by staying active and increasing the blood flow throughout our bodies, we are able to keep ourselves healthier for living longer.

The same goes for eating a healthy and balanced diet. Making sure to drink enough water and eating a clean low fat high protein diet will help you not only feel better, but it is also going to be reflected in the quality of your skin! The more veggies and legumes the better!  When we drink water, we are actively flushing out the toxins in our body out while hydrating ourselves, which will help promote hydrated and glowing skin. On the other hand, when eating a healthy diet, all those vitamins and nutrients are going to nourish our skin to help it stay younger for longer.

Remember to Take Care of Your Skin

Yes, aging, fine lines, and wrinkles are inevitable – but it doesn't have to be something that we avoid. Instead, we can help reduce wrinkles naturally and avoid spending money on expensive, temporary treatments by embracing aging and applying skincare techniques. Remember, your skin is one of the most essential organs in your body. Therefore, we must do all that we can to make sure that it remains healthy even as we begin to get older.  If you think you are too young to get wrinkles, think again as fine lines can start appearing in your late twenties.
